Driving sober doesn’t just mean not driving if you’ve been drinking alcohol. You can get a DUI for driving under the influence of marijuana, prescription medications and other drugs.
When you’re drunk or high, you have big ideas, but not necessarily good ideas. Before the party starts, you need to plan to have a safe ride home. If you don’t, you risk a DUI. That means up to a year in jail, a $5,000 fine, a suspended license, an ignition interlock device installed in your car, legal bills…and lots of uncomfortable conversations. So plan ahead. Drunk-you will thank you. For that matter, so will hungover-you.

Research shows that being under the influence of more than one substance – being under the influence of two or more drugs or alcohol and drugs – increases the risk of death in traffic crashes.
Fatal crashes involving drivers impaired by two or more drugs (or drugs and alcohol) has doubled, increasing from 82 in 2011 to 172 in 2016.
The hundreds of traffic deaths and injuries that happen each year in Washington State due to impaired driving are 100% preventable. Always remember that you have the choice to drive sober and prevent impairment-related deaths on our roadways.
